In his autobiography, Abelard quoted what he described as the constant lament of our Heloise which she often madeto him and to herself:
‘If, unless I repent of my early sins, I cannot be saved, there is no hope for me:- Still, so sweet are the joys of the sins we committed That, even remembered, they pleasured me, these sins that pleased me all too much”
We all do it -- no point in denying it. Well, I'm here to admit that I am an inveterate eavesdropper. The folks behind me in line, the people at the next table, that guy on his cell phone passing me on the street... Those snatches of conversation that float my way are often intriguing, delicious, irresistable.
I've long thought that there was a book in those snippets, somehow. But I've never figured out how to put it all together. Until I do, I can't just let them drift away unrecorded.
And so, here we are. Pattiken
